Welcome to Nursery

We have two classes in our Nursery; Apple Class and Pear Class.

Mrs O'Neill is our Nursery Teacher.
We are very lucky to have several Teaching Assistants who support the children with their learning.

Nursery Teacher's Message

Hello, welcome to our Nursery, a warm and happy place where little learners begin their school journey with confidence and joy. I am Mrs O'Neill and alongside our caring team we create a safe, nurturing environment where every child is valued, encouraged, and celebrated for who they are. Through play, exploration, and gentle routines, we help children develop curiosity, independence, and a love of learning. We look forward to working closely with families and sharing many smiles, discoveries, and special moments together as your child grows and thrives with us.

Sessions

08:45 am - 11:45 am
12:15 pm - 15:15 pm

If your child has a full time nursery place they will stay in school for the dinner break you can choose to either provide a packed lunch for them or you can pay for a School Dinners for more information about our Meal options please see our School Meals page here.

Full time places are granted on the basis of funding being agreed you can find out more about this here.
If you are entitled to 30 hour funding there will be a variation on your pick up times as the dinner time sessions will be included in the 30 hours.

Attendance and Absences

Although nursery is not a statutory requirement, the Local Authority expect that a minimum of 80% attendance is maintained to prevent funding from being withdrawn.
If your child’s attendance falls under that threshold, their place will be at risk.

Please report your child's absence by calling the office on 01706 647923 option 1 and leaving a message on our absence line.
You can also report an absence through the parent portal on Arbor or sending an email to the school office Office@greenbank.rochdale.sch.uk

Here are some ideas of how you can support your child with our Nursery curriculum:

  • Enjoy looking at books together every day. Talk about the pictures, name objects and characters, and encourage your child to join in with repeated words or sounds.
  • Sing songs and nursery rhymes together. Clapping, tapping and doing actions helps your child to remember words and develop early language skills.
  • Encourage your child to play with toys and explore. This could include building with blocks, playing with water, sand or pretend play toys. Talk about what they are doing as they play.
  • Help your child to develop independence during daily routines. Encourage them to put on their coat, tidy up toys, and wash their hands, praising their efforts.
