Safeguarding Statement
The Governing Body and staff of Greenbank Primary School take seriously our responsibilities to safeguard our pupils. We will provide an ethos and environment that will encourage children to talk openly enabling them to feel confident that they are being listened to. We aim to provide an environment within our school that ensures children feel safe, secure and respected at all times.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
Visitors to Greenbank should be aware that the Designated Safeguarding Leads at Greenbank are:
- Designated Safeguarding Lead - Lisa Walsh
- Designated Deputy Safeguarding Lead - Emily Thompson
- Designated Deputy Safeguarding Lead - Karen Crossman
- Designated Deputy Safeguarding Lead - Yvonne Matthew
- Designated Deputy Safeguarding Lead - Hayley Bird
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be found on our Website.
Our Safeguarding Team
Children's Welfare Officer- Yvonne Matthew
Family Support Worker- Hayley Birds
Our Children’s Welfare Office is dedicated to ensuring that every child in our care is safe, supported, and able to thrive. We work closely with pupils, families, and staff to identify any barriers to a child’s wellbeing—whether emotional, social, or practical—and provide early help to prevent concerns from escalating. The team oversees safeguarding procedures, coordinates support plans, and acts as a central point of contact for welfare-related needs.
Our Family Support Worker works alongside the welfare team to build positive, trusting relationships with families. They provide guidance, practical assistance, and tailored support to help families navigate challenges that may impact a child’s attendance, behaviour, learning, or home life. This can include offering parenting advice, signposting to external services, supporting with routines, and working collaboratively with parents to strengthen the home–school partnership.
Together, the Children’s Welfare Office and Family Support Worker play a vital role in promoting children’s wellbeing, ensuring they feel safe and valued, and empowering families to create stable, supportive environments in which their children can flourish.
What Do I Do if I am Worried About a Child?
If you become concerned about something you have seen in school or something a child says to you you must inform the Designated Safeguarding Lead who will take appropriate action.
Operation Encompass
As part of Greenbank Primary School commitment to keeping children safe, we are proud to be part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a unique Police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.
Being part of Encompass means our school will receive a notification from Greater Manchester Police before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved in or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous day. The information is given in confidence to the schools Key Adult and will enable us to provide the best possible support for the child.
If you have any questions or wish to know more about our involvement in Operation Encompass, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Key Adults above.
