Welcome to Year 5

Our teachers are Mrs Symonds in Larch class and Mrs Hartley in Spruce class. Mrs Ogden-Grimshaw is our third teacher in Year 5.
We are very lucky to have several Teaching Assistants who support the children with their learning.

Year 5 Teacher's Message

It is a privilege to have the opportunity to teach your children this academic year. We would like to introduce ourselves: We are Miss Hartley, Mrs Symonds and Mrs Ogden. We always strive to do our very best for all the children we teach. Between us, we all love the great outdoors and spend as much time as possible walking, particularly in our local countryside. Miss Hartley really enjoys reading, collecting movie memorabilia and singing; Mrs Symonds especially enjoys going to the gym, becoming a keep-fit enthusiast and thoroughly enjoys spending quality time with her grandson; Mrs Ogden loves reading, art and travelling, particularly to see her children who live overseas. We all love teaching all about The Rainforests, World War 2 and Rivers and Mountains. Our Year 5 family always endeavours to work successfully as a cohesive team, to ensure the very best for the future of your child.

Here are some ideas of how you can support your child with our Year 5 curriculum:

  • Visit the library and read some books by our class authors; Onjali Q Rauf, Michael Morpurgo and Louis Sachar.
  • Learning a poem or a "silly sentence" (a mnemonic) to help your child memorise the order of the eight planets from the Sun.
  • Take a family walk to one of Rochdale's Rivers; the River Roch, River Spodden or River Beal.
  • Can your child have a conversation with a family member or friend who fought in World War 2?
