Welcome to Year 1
Our teachers are Miss Matthew in Oak class and Mx Clark in Holly class.
We are very lucky to have several Teaching Assistants who support the children with their learning.
Year 1 Teacher's Message
Welcome to Year One. We are Mx Clark and Miss Matthew and we are eager to share a little about ourselves and what life is like in Year 1. Year 1 is a big step for our children, but we aim to support them in a nurturing way and allow creativity and each child’s individual spark to shine- through roleplay, crafting, writing and reading. Our classroom is a busy, bustling environment, where we explore a range of topics.
Mx Clark enjoys reading with their cat, crafting and drawing. Their favourite topic to teach is 'Ourselves', where the children learn about their senses and what makes them unique. It is fantastic to celebrate our differences and how magical it makes our year group.
Miss Matthew loves spending time outdoors, and will often be seen out and about with her running club. She also enjoys singing, particularly nursery rhymes, and making memories with her little girl at home. Her favourite topic is PSHE, where we learn about lots of ways to work as an effective team.

Times Table Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme designed to help students master the times tables! Children have the opportunity to practise multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12 through this engaging website. Teachers can set multiplication challenges suitable for your child and monitor the progress your child makes.
Here are some ideas of how you can support your child with our Year 1 curriculum:
- Visit the library and read some books by our class authors; Jill Murphy, Oliver Jeffers and Nadia Shireen.
- Talk to your child each morning about what the weather is like and what season we are in.
- Look around your house and talk about what materials different household objects are made from, e.g. wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, rock.
- Can you take a walk in your local area and identify different types of houses and homes, e.g. detached, semi-detached, terraced house, bungalow, flats/ apartments etc.
