Rainbow Room
What is the Rainbow Room?
"The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you do the work"
by John Vance Chayney
Our Beautiful Rainbow Room
The Th.Inc. Room (Rainbow Room) has been shown to improve emotional development, learning and behaviour by:
- Raising Self Esteem
- Increasing Confidence
- Improving Emotional Control
- Improving Peer Relationships
- Reducing Attention Seeking Behaviour
- Improving Concentration
- Improving Progress in class
Children usually attend for one afternoon a week and work with children of all ages with one of the Pastoral Team or one of the Mentors.
What do the children do there?
Sessions Include:
Sharing a snack and news where the children are encouraged to share any news with the group.
Circle time activity linked to a number of themes including anger management, self-regulation, motivation, friendship circles, self-esteem, and empathy.
Children can also access counselling support from qualified staff for a number of reasons including: bereavement, separation or loss, anxiety, school phobia, bullying or divorce.
At the end of each session the children learn various relaxation techniques that can support them through various times in their lives. Currently we are using "Relax Kids" and "Child2Child" peer massage the children particularly enjoy this part of the session.
Links included if you are interested in using these at home with your child particularly useful at bedtime and at times of stress.
More recently we have introduced Mindfulness sessions for a group of children experiencing problems with regulating themselves. To find out more about Mindfulness and the benefits for children please follow the link.
Dinosaur School
The Rainbow Room is also used for the very young children in school to create a magical experience for Dinosaur School sessions. The children learn social and emotional aspects of learning. Themes include:
New Beginnings
School Rules
Getting on and falling out
Going for goals
Good to be me
You may hear your children talking about Wally and Dina the two puppets used to help teach these topics. The Incredible Years Dinosaur School is explained on their Website in greater detail. Please follow the link for further information or Speak to Ms Dalton or Mrs Cummings in school.
